Oral surgery is an umbrella term for any operation performed on your teeth, gums, tongue, or the surrounding oral tissues. At Maple Dental, Dr. Kaur has years of experience in oral surgery. Her knowledge and expertise reduce the risk of complications and result in positive patient outcomes.
Dr. Kaur uses oral surgery to treat various oral health problems, including:
Sometimes, oral surgery replaces permanent teeth lost due to extractions or trauma.
At Maple Dental, Dr. Kaur provides several types of oral surgery, including:
Dental implants are small metal screws placed inside an empty tooth socket. After placement, the implants fuse with your jawbone to provide a foundation for crowns, bridges, or implant-retained dentures.
Wisdom teeth are in the back of the mouth and are the last permanent teeth to come in. Since they break through the gumline several years after your other teeth, they’re more likely to become impacted, increasing the risk of infection and tooth decay. Wisdom tooth removal reduces these risks by pulling them out before they can damage the teeth around them or the jawbone.
Dr. Kaur might recommend a gum graft if you have severe gum disease. During gum grafting, Dr. Kaur takes tissue from the roof of your mouth and sutures it to your receding gums. The grafted tissue restores your gum line, reducing the risk of further problems.
Dr. Kaur recommends a bone graft if you want dental implants but don’t have enough healthy bone to support them.
During bone grafting, Dr. Kaur implants a small piece of bone tissue into your upper or lower jaw. Once the graft is placed, it encourages the growth of new, healthy bone tissue.
After oral surgery, it’s normal to experience mild swelling, bleeding, and increased tooth sensitivity. In the days afterward, get plenty of rest, take medication as prescribed, and follow Dr. Kaur’s instructions.
Most people return to work and other activities within 48 hours. However, it can take longer, depending on which surgery you underwent.
