Invisalign® Q&A

What is Invisalign?

While traditional braces use metal brackets attached to your teeth and wires to adjust the braces as your teeth move into alignment, Invisalign straightens teeth using nearly invisible, removable trays. These are custom-fitted to gradually move your teeth into their ideal positions as you wear each set of trays for the necessary amount of time.

If you are pregnant or have severe allergies, don’t worry: The ultra-thin trays are BPA-free and contain no latex, metal, or gluten, making them a safe orthodontic solution.

Which dental problems does Invisalign treat?

The Maple Dental team could recommend Invisalign if you have any of the following problems:

Crooked teeth

Crossing or misaligned teeth are probably the first thing you consider when seeking orthodontic treatment.

Overbite or underbite

If your top and bottom teeth don’t close correctly, it can create wear patterns over time, leading to problems.

Crossbite

When you bite down, do some of your bottom teeth appear in front of your upper teeth while others sit behind? If so, you have a crossbite, which can lead to chipped teeth, faster wear-and-tear, and receding gums.

Gaps between teeth

Too much space between teeth can trap food and other objects, leading to pain and gum disease.

Crowded teeth

You might have the opposite problem, where your teeth twist and/or overlap. This can also trap food and lead to gum disease and plaque buildup.

Invisalign can help. If your orthodontic problems are severe, the Maple Dental team will collaborate with you to find a solution that meets your needs.

What can I expect from my Invisalign consultation and treatment?

You start with a thorough exam, including X-rays, and discussing your goals. If you’re a candidate for Invisalign, Maple Dental orders your customized aligners.

Once they arrive, you wear the trays for 22 hours per day, taking them out to eat or drink and brushing and flossing before you put them back in.

You’ll return to Maple Dental every few weeks for your next set of trays, and the team will carefully monitor your progress. The total treatment time will differ depending on which problems are being corrected. Most patients achieve a more beautiful smile in 12-18 months.

The smile you’ve always wanted is within reach. Schedule your Invisalign consultation today by calling Maple Dental or booking your visit online.
